This is a procedure to evaluate the oesophagus when there is difficulty in swallowing. A small quantity of barium paste is given to the patient to swallow. As the barium passes through the oesophagus the images are recorded on the fluoroscopy machine in a video format. Any obstruction, narrowing or motility disorder is demonstrated on this study. Films of the procedure will be provided to you for viewing by your Doctor.

This test evaluates the stomach and the duodenum (upper intestine). In this test the patient will be asked to drink some barium liquid. This liquid is fruit flavored and is pleasant to drink. After the liquid has been ingested it will coat the walls of the esophagus, stomach and upper intestine. We have a fully movable fluoroscopy machine where the passage of barium through the intestine is video-recorded and any abnormality like reflux, narrowing, hiatus or tumors can be picked up. The patient is asked not to eat for 4 hours preceding the procedure. Images of the procedure are documented on film, as well as videos of the procedure are recorded.

This test evaluates the small intestine. The patient is asked to drink barium liquid and then we wait for the barium to reach the intestines. With our fluoroscopy screening we can check whether the barium has completely coated the intestines before taking any X-Rays and hence minimize any unnecessary radiation exposure. We take sequential X-Rays to follow the passage of barium as it moves through the intestine. Our fluoroscopy machine uses low radiation dose X-Rays and fluoroscopy screening to minimize the radiation exposure. Abnormalities of intestine like any growth, outpouching or narrowing can be detected. Spot films are obtained for the ileocaecal junction.

This test is used to see the outline of the large bowel and detect any abnormality. Before the procedure a laxative will be given to you to clear out the colon. In this procedure a narrow tube coated in local anesthetic is placed in the patients rectum and barium is injected to coat the large bowel. As the barium needs to completely coat the bowel the patient will be asked to move in different positions. With our fluoroscopy screening we can check whether the barium has completely coated the large bowel before taking any X-Rays and hence minimize any unnecessary radiation exposure. After barium has been inserted into the rectum air is inflated via a small tube to distend the colon and coat the colon with barium to detect any abnormality. X-rays are taken in different views to assess the large bowel from every angle. After which the patient will be taken to washroom to pass out the barium. 10-15 mins post procedure the patient can resume their normal routine.

This study evaluates the small intestine in detail. A BD tube is introduced under fluoroscopy into proximal jejunum. This is so that there is only contrast in the small intestines. If there is contrast in the stomach/duodenum this will obscure evaluation of the small intestine. A small amount of barium is injected followed by about 700 – 800 ml of methylcellulose. This is to distend the small intestine so the small abnormalities along the mucosal surface can be evaluated.

MCU is a test done for checking reflux of urine from the bladder retrogradely into the ureters or any bladder or urethral abnormalities. It is done in young girls who get repeated urinary tract infection whereas in young males even one episode of urinary tract infection needs to investigated thoroughly.

This scan is done under fluoroscopy guidance. Here a thin catheter coated with local anesthetic is placed through the urethra into the urinary bladder and bladder is filled with a contrast liquid. For female patients, female paramedical staff will place the catheter in the urethra. After which the catheter is removed and the patient is asked to pass urine. As the patient passes urine intermittent screening of the passage of contrast is done and any reflux of urine can be detected. With our fluoroscopy-guided procedure, X-Ray exposures are done only at the opportune times and radiation exposure is minimum.

X-Ray films documenting the procedure are given to the patient to be pursued by their physician and video sequences can be given on a DVD on request.

Post procedure an antibiotic is given to the patient to prevent any urinary infection. This antibiotic can be prescribed by the physician or can be taken as per the following regime

• Below 2 years - Augmentin DO (syrup) 5ml twice a day for 5 days
• 2 – 10 years - Augmentin 375 mg (tablet) twice a day for 5 days
• 10 – 20 years - Levoflox 500 mg once a day for 5 days
• More than 20 yr - Levoflox 500 mg twice a day for 5 days

Patient is also advised to drink a lot of water post procedure.

RGU is a contrast study of the urethra to look for any strictures, diverticuli or any transection in cases of trauma. Here a thin catheter is placed at the tip on the penis and contrast is injected into the urethra to visualize any abnormality. As the contrast moves up the urethra and into the bladder we take a video recording of the passage of contrast and even minor abnormalities are picked up. Post procedure the patient is asked to drink lots of water.

This is a contrast X-Ray study to visualize the lumen of the uterus and the fallopian tubes. This is usually done in patients who are having difficulty in conceiving a child.

This test is done 2 – 5 days after the patients menstrual flow has ended.

Please tell your doctor before the scan in the following cases

• If there is a chance patient is pregnant
• If the patient is suffering from pelvic inflammatory disease
• Are allergic to iodine contrast

During this test a tube in placed through the vagina into the cervix of the uterus and contrast is injected. You may be given a painkiller or sedative to relax your uterus. Fluoroscopy guided screening and sequential X-Rays are taken to follow passage of contrast. Any blockage in the fallopian tubes or uterine abnormalities will be detected.
