Breach Candy Hospital Department of Nephrology was started in 1975 under Dr. Bhupendra Gandhi.

The mission of this department Nephrology is to provide the highest quality of medical services to help kidney disease patients manage his or her condition.

Over the years the department Nephrology has kept pace with the latest in terms of technology and medical advances.

Today the department Nephrology offers the best in class medical services and has several achievements that are noteworthy in the Indian scenario.

We were first unit to have reverse isolation machine installed for dialysis solution.

Our longest patient (HB) on dialysis had survived for nearly twenty five years before he succumbed to liver failure.

Currently we do close to five hundred dialysis per month

Kidney transplant program was started in 1977 and majority of our patients have live related donor. We are also involved in active cadaveric transplant programme too. We have done nearly 500 transplantations so far.

The hospital is well equipped to offer high quality of medical service for the kidney patients.

  • Six Artificial Dialysis Unit (installed in the department) (7 am to 10 pm).
  • Four Artificial Dialysis Unit (installed in the ICU).
  • Emergency dialysis in ICU(24/7 365 days per year).
  • Dialysis in ICU for critically ill patients including.
    • Slow Low Efficiency Dialysis in medical unstable patients and patients with recent surgery where kidney has failed temporarily.
    • Plasma Exchange (previously called Plasmapheresis) in patients with acute kidney failure.
  • Dialysis for selected patients with severe neuropathy and Myasthenia Gravis.
  • Separate dialysis machine for patients suffering from Hepatitis B and C.
  • Kidney transplant programme (live donor)
  • Active cadaveric transplant programme.
